What To Expect If You Will Be On House Arrest

Posted on

If you are facing a DUI crime and are trying to work out a plan that allows you to serve your time through house arrest instead of in jail, it is highly important to understand what to expect from house arrest before you pursue this option. House arrest is not a piece of cake, and it requires following a lot of rules. Here are several things you should expect if you plan to use this to serve your time.

Your house will be searched

For you to serve your time on house arrest, you will have to follow rules and guidelines, and one of these is that you will not be able to have certain things in or at your home. This includes alcohol, drugs, firearms, ammunition, and weapons. When you begin your house arrest, an officer will come and search your entire house. If anything is found that is not allowed, you would have to immediately get it off the property or you would not be able to serve house arrest at this home.

An officer may show up at anytime

Secondly, when you are on house arrest, you should expect random visits from officers. Officers have the right to show up to your home at any time, and you will not know when this will happen. The purpose of this is to make sure you are there and that all rules are being followed. If they find that you broke a rule, they have the right to take you to jail right then and there.

You will wear a monitoring device

Another thing to realize is that you will have to wear some type of monitoring device, and you will have to pay for it. This monitoring device will let the officers know exactly where you are at all times. Remember, getting to serve your time on house arrest is a privilege, as it is an alternative to jail.

You might be able to leave the house for certain things

When you are on house arrest, it does not mean that you can never leave your home. In fact, you will get to leave for certain things, such as work or doctor visits. The important thing to know is that you must let the officers know where you are at all times, and you must only go to the places that you were approved to go to.

House arrest is a great alternative to jail, but it requires following rules. If you are interested in learning more about this or getting help for the criminal charges you are facing, contact a criminal DUI attorney today.
